Lapis Lazuli is a deep blue semi precious stone flecked with gold.  This stone has been a highly prized gemstone for centuries, in the middle ages, this stone was ground into powder and made into ultramarine one of the most expensive and sought after blue pigments desired by most artists of the renaissance and baroque periods.
